Live data

Each value says how often it is read and when it was last measured. The inverters, meters and battery are read every 5 minutes, the pyranometer every 10. The lab sends them to this site every 15 minutes, and after 30 minutes a value is marked as delayed.

Photo of the lab with its power flows drawn over it. The light moves the way the power goes, faster when more power flows. The backup comes from the campus grid, almost all hydropower in Norway, and the lab can only take from it. The battery and the inverters are inside the house. Measured
Solar power, total
The three arrays together, 4 770 Wp in total. A Sunny Boy shuts down when there is not enough light, and a sum with a missing term is not a smaller total, it is a wrong one. So this series has a hole whenever any inverter was asleep, which in Bergen means most of the winter afternoon.

Energy balance

What the lab uses, what the panels make, what the battery takes or gives, and what arrives through the backup feed from the grid. The consumption is measured by two meters, one on the lab appliances and one on the charging stations; the yellow sockets, wired straight to the HVL grid, pass through neither and are not counted. A negative battery value means the battery is being charged. The four numbers are read a few seconds apart, so a small difference is normal.

Solar production

Read from each of the three inverters since 16 September 2026. An inverter switches off in low light, so early and late in the day an array can show no value.

Solar power, array 1 (monocrystalline)
6 monocrystalline panels Astronergy ASM6610M, 280 Wp each, 1 680 Wp, confirmed from the label on the back of a panel. Wired as one string of six in series since 28 March 2026. WHICH of the two tilted arrays this inverter is connected to is not confirmed: it comes from the lab wall chart, and two of the three inverters may have been exchanged about a year ago. The two tilted arrays cannot be told apart from their measurements, because six monocrystalline panels and six polycrystalline ones in series differ by three tenths of a volt.

Solar power, array 2 (polycrystalline)
6 polycrystalline panels REC275PE, 275 Wp each, 1 650 Wp. Wired as one string of six in series since 28 March 2026. WHICH of the two tilted arrays this inverter is connected to is not confirmed, for the same reason as array 1: the assignment comes from the wall chart, and two inverters may have been exchanged since it was drawn.

Solar power, array 3 (vertical, east and west)
Six frames standing vertically on the old railway rails, each carrying two MiaSole FLEX-02 120N thin film modules back to back, one facing east and one facing west. Twelve modules of 120 Wp, 1 440 Wp in total. The two faces are two strings of six wired in parallel, so the inverter reports them added together and can never tell east from west. These modules are not bifacial: a CIGS module is opaque and produces nothing through its back. It is the mounting that has two faces.

Backup from the grid

Starts when the battery falls below 20 % and stops at 25 %. From October to March the lab needs it regularly.

Backup from the grid
The lab is not connected to the grid for its normal supply, but a backup feed from the HVL grid can start when the battery falls below 20 %, and stops again at 25 %. This is what passes through it.

Controlled loads

The lab switches these three loads itself, once a minute, from the battery level: the fuller the battery, the more it allows itself to run, and below 23 % it protects the battery and drops them. This page only shows their state. Nothing here can switch anything on or off.
